A
father put ecstasy in a female student drink before his son raped her
during an Illinois State University orientation event, authorities have
said. Shawn
Childs Jr, 19, and his father, Shawn Childs Sr, were in a residence
hall along with other incoming students on Tuesday in Normal, according
to a prosecutor.
A
woman, who has not been named, told authorities Childs Sr put a pill in
her soda before she went back to her room feeling ill,
Childs Jr followed her inside and raped her twice, the woman said. He and his father both face criminal charges in the case.
The
two-day event at Illinois State University, called the Preview, is
meant for students to find out more about the university before classes
start in August.
Parents
can attend and stay on separate floors inside Hewett Hall in Normal,
Illinois State University Chief of Staff Jay Groves told the Chicago
Tribune.

the woman said, Childs Sr put a pill in her soda before Childs Jr
followed her and raped her twice, Ghrist recounted in his statement.

events unfolded between 10 and 11 pm on Tuesday according to the

elder Childs shared photos of himself with his son on Tuesday and
Wednesday on Facebook, geolocating then at Illinois State University.
He wrote in the captions that he felt proud of his son - and a little nervous - as he took him to his new college.
Childs
Jr and his father were arrested on Wednesday at a train station, as
they were about to head back to Chicago, authorities said.
The elder Childs had 22 ecstasy pills in his pocket during the arrest, according to Ghrist.
Childs
Jr told police the woman was 'messed up' on Tuesday night, Ghrist
added. He has now been charged with four counts of criminal sexual
assault.
Meanwhile
his father, who faced previous convictions for attempted murder,
domestic battery and weapon charges according to Ghrist, has been
charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to
deliver.
Both are due to be arraigned on Friday.
