The Osun State Command of the Nigeria
Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended a senior civil servant
with the Osun State Ministry of Works, Mr. Julius Adetokunbo, for
allegedly stealing some components of a transformer.
They were arrested on Friday during the parade of
Adetokunbo and an accomplice, Muideen Agunbiade, at the command in
Osogbo.
The transformer, from where the duo
allegedly stole 12 coils, was installed inside the Osun State Civil
Service Secretariat in Abere.
Adetokunbo, 55, is the Higher Electrical Officer in charge of the power house that supplies electricity to the secretariat.
Ayodele said, “
The NSCDC officers
attached to the secretariat, who were on stop-and-search operation,
discovered the transformer’s components inside a Nissan Sunny car where
the suspects hid them while transporting them to where they would be
sold.”
The NSCDC boss said the command would not tolerate vandalism and any unlawful act in the state.
Ayodele said the suspect would be charged to court soon.
The civil servant told journalists that
he was caught the first time he would be engaging in the act and blamed
his involvement on lack of money to pay his children’s fees.
Agunbiade said the civil servant wanted
to borrow some money from him, but he told him that he did not have
money to give out. The contractor added that Adetokunbo persuaded him to
come to the secretariat to remove the coils.
