Unidentified Gunmen kidnap Taraba Deputy Gov’s mother, demand N300m ransom

Unknown gun men invaded the house of the Deputy governor of Taraba state Eng. Haruna Manu yesterday night and abducted his mother in Mutum-Biu the head quarters of Gasol Local Government area of Taraba state. The deputy governor was reported to be outside the state when the incident occurred. 


The gunmen according an eye witness who refused to give his name said they came on three motor-cycles. The gunmen were said to be heavily armed with sophisticated weapons. 

“They came on three motor-cycles, they forcefully entered the house and forced the old woman to climb their motor-cycles” “They were hostile in their approach and ready to harm any one who stand in their way” “The person that carried the old woman was in the front of the two who were guarding from behind” “The second motor-cycle man fell down while they were trying to escape with the old woman, it was in the middle of the house of a neighbour to the deputy governor” the eye witness stated “When the nighbour rush out to ask who was riding motor cycle in his compound, the gunmen who fell from the motor cycle got up and shot at the nighbour who is the landlord three times” and later died  today after he was rush to a hospital within Mutum-Biu town 
A family source revealed to Vanguard that the abductors phoned a family member this morning and the deputy governor’s mother spoke with family members. The family member further said that the old woman confirmed that she was kept unhurt and that the abductors are demanding 300 million naira ransom before the release of the old woman. Attempt to confirm the incident from the police failed as the state police public relation officer ASP Joseph Kwaji was not responding to his calls at the time of the report.
