Jay Z' music streaming service took on the likes of Spotify when it launched in March. Now the rap mogul has set his sights on taking a share of the market from TV streaming services, such as Netflix. The company says it will soon launch original scripted and unscripted programming for its one million subscribers.
According to a report in Variety, Tidal has ordered two new series to be shown exclusively on its service.
The group will be streaming the second season of Brooklyn street-life drama Money & Violence in January.
It's
a membership-based service that offers subscribers two levels - $10 for
standard sound quality and $20 for high-fidelity sound quality.
Jay Z said last month that the service had gotten to 1 million subscribers in more than 46 countries.
But the service has struggled against competitors like Spotify and Pandora, which offer free subscriptions.
Earlier this month, Jay Z was joined by a slew of artists at Barclays Center in Brooklyn for a charity concert put on Tidal.
At the concert, there were just a few passing references to Tidal.
There
were also some videos with people talking about making the world a
better place, but nothing about the organisation that is getting the
money from the show.
