'we don't care what anyone thinks'' - Woman marry her stepbrother after they fell in love

Julie Lloyd and her fiancé both call the same man Dad. For over a decade, she and Dean Hunter grew close and saw each other as brother and sister.

But those feelings developed when Dean turned to Julie – who had also become his sister-in-law – for support during his divorce.

They are now set to marry after Julie’s long-lost dad, and their dad gave them his blessing

Some extended family object but Julie told the Sunday People: “We don’t care.”

And their dad Robert, 75, said: “I’m happy they are getting married – end of story. They are good for each other and if they’ve got feelings for each other, then fair enough.”

The couple fell for each other five years ago, when Dean moved in with Robert after his marriage broke down.

But they only felt able to tell their family about their love four weeks ago.

Electrician Dean, 47, said: “It did feel strange at first and it took me a while to get used to it. I’m not going to let anybody dictate my life – it’s about me and her.

“I have not seen some members of the family directly but I know some of them will be against it.

“They’ll probably pass me in the street now without speaking.

“We know we are going to be up against it but we are just going to see how it plays out and if we need to, we will move away.

"We don’t know what the backlash will be. It’s sad because it should be the happiest day of my life.”

Julie, 52, added: “We had to overcome people not being happy at us being together. But it doesn’t matter what anyone says.”

Amazingly, Dean and Julie only met because she hired a private investigator to find Robert, who had been unaware she existed.

Julie’s mum Mavis got together with Robert in 1962 but they split before she was born in 1964.

Meanwhile, Dean’s biological father, John Hunter, died in a car accident in 1970 and his mum Myra married Robert in 1975.
