A female Muslim teacher was left a note in class telling her to tie her headscarf around her neck "hang yourself with it."
Mairah
Teli, 24, who teaches language arts at Dacula High, said she feels the
note is in reaction to Donald Trump's victory in the presidential race.
Ms Teli said she believes the “children feel safe making comments that are racist or sexist because of him."
A
spokeswoman for the local school authorities in Gwinnett County,
Georgia, said in an email that the district is "doing all it can to
identify the person who wrote and left this note."
Teli, who grew up in Gwinnett, suspected it was from a student. She said the school community had worked hard to comfort her.
The incident comes amid widespread unrest across the US sparked by Trump's election victory.
Police in Oregon arrested 26 people after protests turned violent leaving Portland looking like a “war zone”.
Armed
officers were forced to use pepper spray, flash grenades and rubber
bullets as a 4,000 strong demonstration turned into a full-scale riot.
