OPERATIVES of the Abia State vigilante
group have arrested two suspects in Aba, Abia State, for allegedly
vandalising an electricity transformer cables.
The suspects identified as Chukwudi
David (32), who hails from Izza, Ohukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi
State and Onyekachi Nwosu (38) from Imo State were arrested following a
tip-off from members of the public.
One of the suspects, David, confessed to
have vandalised over 15 transformers in Aba since they started their
operation in the commercial city.
David said, “We are responsible for
vandalising many transformers in Aba, including the one vandalised at
Cemetery by Okigwe road, Umuola by Ogbor Hill, Eziama community,
Cemetery by Railway.
“We also vandalised others at
Erondu/Brass road; Ukaegbu Road, Aba-Owerri road; Umuocham road; Osusu
by 7up; Umuola Road; Osusu by Glass Industry; Cemetary/Terevin and
Nwaigwe by Brass.”
The Commander General of the group,
Chief Martins Idika, told Southern City News that the suspects were
responsible for the vandalisation of many transformers in different
parts of Aba, adding that the group would soon hand them over to the
police for further investigation.
He warned hoodlums involved in such acts
to stop forthwith, pointing out that any of them caught in the act
would face the wrath of the law.
He commended the state government for
supporting the vigilante group and promised to join forces with other
security agencies to fight criminals in the state.
The suspects regretted their actions and
appealed to the state government and the Enugu Electric Distribution
Company to forgive them, promising not to return to crime again if they
were left off the hook.
