Thug battered teen mum for refusing to date him

A savage thug has been caged after he battered a woman with a chair simply because she refused to go out with him.

Tia Edwards was left with horrific bruising to her face after Owen Hunt flew into a rage and began attacking her when she snubbed his proposal that they begin dating.

In an incredible twist, Caernarfon Crown Court heard on October 7 how 17-year-old Tia said she now misses her attacker and "cannot wait" for them to be reunited after he was jailed for 16 months.

The pair had known each other for around three years but had not been going out together. When Hunt, 19, of Palace Avenue in Rhyl , asked 17-year-old Miss Edwards if she would become his girlfriend, she said no.

he then jumped on top of her, put his hands round her throat and began punching and slapping her, leaving her with a chipped tooth and scratching and bruising.

He also threw a chair at her during the attack, and on his arrest he bragged to police that Miss Edwards wouldn’t make a complaint and called the officers “f***ing c***s”.

But on October 7 he was jailed for 16 months for the attack. However, Caernarfon crown court heard his victim had forgiven him.

Even though there will be a restraining order banning him from contacting her, she has forgiven him and “can’t wait to see him”.

In her impact statement, Miss Edwards said: “I loved Owen at the time and didn’t believe he would ever hit me. The injuries have now healed.”

The statement added that “she indicates she does miss him and love him and can’t wait to see him” and “wants him to stop saying sorry”.

The court heard there was nothing to suggest he’d been violent to her before the attack, which happened after he had been drinking lager and wine on September 9.

Prosecutor Matthew Curtis said his mood had become difficult. But after assaulting Miss Edwards he behaved “normally”, according to the landlord of the Colwyn Bay flat where the attack happened.
Judge Hughes told Hunt: "This was a case of a sustained assault on her.”
