Lady Gaga has seemingly taken a swipe at iconic singer Madonna . The Bad Romance singer sat down with Zane Lowe on Apple Music's Beats radio on Thursday to talk about her upcoming album Joanne.
But things got a little awkward when the DJ likened Gaga's career to that of Madonna.
"There
is another artist who has lived a very parallel existence," he said.
"Based on this story, which I'm sure you can relate to. You know Madonna
tells a very similar story... overprotective father... Papa Don't
Preach. You know what I mean."
But an unimpressed Gaga, 30, replied saying she didn't think they were similar at all.
"Madonna and I are very different," she said before an awkward silence fell between the pair.
"Just sayin'," the DJ responded before Gaga repeated the phrase herself.
She
continued: "I wouldn't make that comparison at all. I don't mean to
disrespect Madonna... she's a nice lady. And she's had a fantastic, huge
career. She's the biggest pop star of all time.
"But I play a lot of instruments. I write all my own music. I spend
hours and hours a day in the studio. I'm a producer. I'm a writer. What I
do is different."
Not stopping there, she added: "There are
major differences between me and her and I don't mean that in a
disrespectful way. I just will not be compared to anyone anymore I am
who the f*ck I am and this is me. My life story is my life story just
like yours is. The thing is we all express things in different ways but
my rebellion at my father for him being angry with me that has ended.
It's like finally I can bite back."
'Don't compare me to Madonna' - Lady Gaga really doesn't want to be compared to Madonna
