The
Notting Hill Carnival was marred by violence yesterday after a brutal
fight broke out in the street and 440 people were arrested - the highest
total in at least 15 years.
Police and
paramedics were on patrol in West London throughout but struggled to
keep the peace at the largest carnival in Europe and arrested hundreds
of revellers over the two days.
Yesterday,
a man was caught on camera kicking a fellow reveller as he fell to the
ground during the scuffle, and a black Audi - which was parked on the
street near the famous event - was completely covered in paint.
Thousands
of people turned out for the second day of the annual street party but
scenes of mayhem could be seen throughout west London.
Scotland Yard confirmed that more than 300 people were arrested during the two-day event.
Monday marked the Grand Finale of the event's 50th anniversary, which has this year hosted 60 bands and 38 sound systems.
Scotland Yard said a total of 156 arrests were made on Sunday, while 160 people were apprehended by 7pm on Monday.
