Terrifying moment baby falls down escalator after mother loses grip on pram (Video)

This is the terrifying moment a mother loses his grip on his child's pram while going down an escalator. The woman is seen in CCTV footage as she approaches the stairs and tips it back, balancing it on its rear wheels.nBut seconds later the balance seems to shift and the youngster is sent crashing down the staircase while the pushchair goes flying after her. The mother rushes after the poor child, who appeared to hit several steps on the way.

When she reaches the bottom the escalator stops running as it appears someone pushes the emergency button.

The worried mother can then be seen in the video, which was apparently filmed in China, scooping the youngster up and cradling her in her arms.
They stand at the bottom of the for several minutes while others rush around to check they are both okay.

It's unknown how badly the child, who appears to be no more than a year old, was injured in the fall.
The footage was posted online today and has already been viewed more than 45,000 times.

Most escalators in the UK carry a sign warning parents not to take pushchairs on them and to find alternative means such as lifts.
