Brandy Norwood is currently signed with Chameleon Entertainment but has filed a lawsuit to end her contract with them. The 37-year-old songstress and actress claims the contract she is in is like a ball and chain, according to TMZ.
The
singer has been signed to the record label since 2011 but has now filed
a lawsuit against the company and its president, Breyon Prescott.
Brandy
accused them of putting her career in jeopardy and claims the label
actually tried to prevent her from recording and releasing new music
after promising her hundreds of thousands of dollars for studio time
that never materialized.
TMZ
obtained the lawsuit and revealed the record label tried to pressure
her into giving up her non-recording avenues of including concerts and
Broadway shows.
Brandy's lawyer specifically says in the lawsuit, 'Brandy Norwood's story is Kesha Redux, but without the sex.'
The
lawsuit also states: 'It's a blatantly unlawful attempt to bully
Norwood into signing a new recording and distribution agreement
containing terms far worse than her current agreement.'
The documents say that Prescott attempted to have Norwood sign a new recording and distribution contract with the label.
This means the company would be able to profit from her acting projects and tours.
Meanwhile
Brandy has been part of two acting projects this year. She was the lead
in a TV series, Zoe Ever After, which followed a newly single mother
who wanted to start a cosmetics business.
She was also in the comedy/romance The Perfect Match which debuted March this year.
