The US iconic actor and Comedian Bill Cosby is said to be completely blind after suffering from a degenerative eye condition. He is reportedly housebound and living "in his own personal
hell", with only his wife Camille for support, as he prepares to face
trial over allegations of sexual assault.
Cosby, 79, used a cane and held the arm of an associate as he arrived for a preliminary hearing earlier this month.
A
source told the New York Post's Page Six: "His alleged victims may take
some solace in the fact that he's in his own personal hell.
"He has been suffering a degenerative eye disease and is completely
blind. All his Hollywood friends have turned their backs on him."
The veteran entertainer is said to be confined to his home in Pennsylvania with Camille, his wife of 52 years, by his side.
The
source continued: "He is confined to his house in Pennsylvania, and the
only person on his side is his wife, Camille, who is masterminding his
defence. His only friends are the small army of lawyers on his payroll."
Cosby is believed to be suffering from keratoconus, a condition that cause the cornea to bulge.
In a defamation suit filed by the former TV personality late last year, he reportedly claimed he is "legally and functionally blind".
Earlier
this month he was ordered to stand trial on three counts of aggravated
indecent assault relating an alleged incident in 2004 involving Andrea
Constand, who claims he drugged and assaulted her.
She reached a civil settlement with Cosby in 2006, and on Monday a
judge ruled he can sue her for breaching a confidentiality agreement she
signed as part of the deal.
Cosby has denied Constand's allegations and insists that the sexual contact between them had been consensual.
