A magistrate’s court in Kano, has ordered five suspects involved in
the killing of Bridget Agbahime, a trader at Kofar Wambai market in
Kano accused of blasphemy, to be remanded in prison.
The magistrate, Mohammed Jibril, gave the order after the suspects were arraigned by the police on Friday.
Agbhaime was murdered after involving in an argument over Prophet Mohammed. A mob descended over alleged blasphemy.
Some of the charges against the suspects read:
“That you Dauda
Ahmad “M” of Goron Dutse quarters, Kano on 2nd day of June, 2016 at
about 1630hrs, at Kofar Wambai market kano while having misunderstanding
with Mrs Briget Mike Agbaheme, held her hand and slapped her on face
and with intent to cause breach of public peace and causing death, false
raised alarm wherein you shouted “ALLAHU AKBAR” and falsely accused one
Mrs Briget Mike Agbaheme “F” of blaspheming the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
