An England fan was thrown into Marseilles harbour tonight after being surrounded by rival French supporters. The fan, wearing an orange t-shirt, was seen lying on the floor being punched and kicked after being separated from his friends.
He was later pictured with a black eye swimming back to the shore having apparently being dumped into the water by locals.
It comes as French, Russian and English fans have been involved in a series of clashes in the French city.
As darkness fell, Russian thugs sparked a fight by throwing chairs and bottles at a group of England supporters.
As
rival gangs threw punches riot police responded with a baton charge.
The Russia fans chanted 'Rossiya' as they were chased by police.
As
soon as France’s opening game of the Euros finished in Paris, the
violence flared again in Marseille, with French, Russian and English
thugs all involved.
A flare was thrown into a restaurant on the waterfront, sending diners fleeing.
During the afternoon, stunned tourists watched in horror as England fans bellowed out: “F**k off Europe we’re all voting out.”
They then sang anti IRA and anti German songs before singing “Sit down if you hate the French.”
French police donned riot gear and staged a series of snatch raids which quietened the fans down for a short time.
One
bare chested Russian stood on a traffic bollard and was pelted with
beer cans. One of the cans hit a fellow fan and he was hustled off to
safety.
Every pretty woman who passed was greeted with loud chants of "get your t**s out for the lads".
The sound of sirens filled the air across the whole city.
