Boxing champion Adrien Broner handed himself in to police yesterday after a warrant was issued for his arrest last month. The 26-year-old is charged with felonious assault and aggravated robbery following an altercation at a bowling alley earlier this year. He was released on $100,000 bail and is due to appear in court in
Hamilton County, Cincinnati, later today, prosecutors said.
The boxer , from Ohio, allegedly pointed a handgun at a man after losing a bet in a high-stakes bowling match in January.
He is accused of then knocking the man unconscious and taking money from him, according to court documents.
Broner's attorney, Will Welsh, said an arrangement was made with county
prosecutors to allow his client to turn himself in after his clash with Ashley Theophane on Friday . Broner scored a ninth-round knockout of Theophane in the bout last week in Washington D.C.
"We are denying all the allegations," Welsh said, adding Broner would plead not guilty at Tuesday's arraignment.
Broner,
who holds the WBA Super Lightweight super champion title and goes by
the nickname "The Problem," has a 30-2 record, with 22 knockouts,
according to the World Boxing Association.
