A
woman and her driver escaped death on Tuesday after their
delivery van somersaulted and immediately went up in flames on the Lagos-Ibadan
Expressway. The vehicle, with number plate, Ogun AAB
163 XA, was heading towards the Sagamu area to deliver some cartons of
sausage rolls to customers, when the accident happened around 11am at
the Ibafo end of the expressway.
It was learnt that the van was on top speed when one of the back tyres burst, and the vehicle somersaulted.
Sympathisers and other passersby quickly moved in and extricated the two occupants from the van. In less than five minutes, the vehicle exploded and went up in flames.
The driver of the van said he lost control of it immediately the tyre burst.
He said, “We were coming from Lagos and
going to Sagamu to make deliveries of some sausage rolls. I didn’t know
what went wrong. I just discovered that one of the tyres burst and I
lost control of the van. It somersaulted several times. We are lucky.”
