A crowdfunding campaign set up to help Kanye West pay off a massive
self-confessed debt has so far managed to raise just under 0.0004% of
its intended goal. The GoFundMe bail out campaign is designed to
help the rapper win his "personal struggle" with mounting arrears, which
he revealed in an astonishing Twitter rant earlier this week.
In one of his most famous songs, Kanye famously dissed "gold-diggers" for their refusal to "mess with broke" chaps.
But this strongly-expressed sentiment didn't put him off from asking Facebook supremo Mark Zuckerberg for $1billion to help pay off a $53million debt .
The audacious rapper also urged Zuck to confirm that he, Kanye West, is the greatest artist that has ever lived.
After it became apparent that the dosh was not going
to be forthcoming, a handful of generous souls came together to donate
an average of about $6 each.
At the time of writing, a total of 41 people had pledged $247, leaving just $52,999,753 left to go.
"We must open our hearts and wallets for Kanye today," wrote
Jeremy Piatt, an American graphic designer who started the campaign.
"Sure
he is personally rich and can buy furs and houses for his family, but
without our help, the true genius of Kanye West can't be realized."
"Kanye West has told us time and time again that he is the
'greatest living artist and greatest artist of all time', Piatt
continued.
"Great artists need to be supported financially to achieve their full potential.
Piatt
went on to quote one of Kanye's most rousing statements, in which he
reportedly claimed: "I am Warhol. I am the number one most impactful
artist of our generation.
"I am Shakespeare in the flesh. Walt Disney. Nike. Google.
"Now who's gonna be the Medici family and stand up and let me create more?"
