British No.1 tennis player Andy Murray has welcomed his first child with wife Kim Sears, as she gave birth to a baby girl on February 7. The birth was confirmed by the BBC on Tuesday morning with Murray's daughter weighing 8lb 10oz.
His grandmother Shirley Erskine found out via text - and revealed the new parents did not know the sex of the child.
"Andy
and Kim said from the outset that they didn't want to know, so I'm
assuming that they didn't know and of course none of us knew, so it was
nice to get a little surprise like that," she told BBC Scotland.
Ellen
Murray, whose son Willie is Andy's father, added: "Andy phoned
yesterday and said, "Congratulations, you're a great-granny."
"He told me the baby was 8lb 10oz when she was born. It's
wonderful news. We watched him in the Australian Open final and I think
he just wanted to come home.
"I don't really know about her name yet but I hope we'll see them all soon. I'll be looking forward to a cuddle."
Murray's
mother Judy also responded to a tweet from a Scottish comedian,
suggesting she should enter a 'GlamGran' competition, replying "love
it."
