The 41-year-old method actor says in an interview with Variety that he refused to eat a fake liver (made from jelly) created by his props department. Instead,
Leo insisted on eating a raw slab of bison liver to illicit an
authentic reaction for a scene in his upcoming historical epic The
Revenant.
Of
the experience Leo says: 'The bad part is the membrane around it. It's
like a balloon. When you bite into it, it bursts in your mouth.'
And
while his director Alejandro González Iñárritu was worried for his
actor's health, he now claims he would not have 'gotten to the truth' if
he had not eaten the raw slab of liver.
The film is set for release on January 8 in the United States, with a limited release opening on Christmas Day.
Meanwhile, Eddie Redmayne swept the board during last year's awards season, but it's looking like 2016 could be Leonardo's year.
