Gabrielle Union got involved in a heated Twitter debate with fans over 12-year-old cop shooting victim Tamir Rice on Wednesday. The 43-year-old actress referred to her own rape as a 19-year-old while slamming people who attempted to place blame on the child for getting shot. The schoolboy was gunned down by police in a Cleveland park while playing with a replica gun, two seconds after they arrived in response to a 911 call.

One of the latest lines used to justify the officer's reaction was that the boy was 'big for his age' - which drew an angry tweet from the Bring It On actress. Union - who was raped while working at a Payless ShoeSource when she was just 19 - immediately recognised the trend of victim-blaming, and made an eye-opening point about her own sexual assault.

Victim blaming: One of the latest lines used to justify the officer's reaction was that the boy was 'big for his age' - which drew an angry tweet from the Bring It On actress
Lived through it: having been raped whan she was 19, Union had witnessed victim-blaming first hand
Back and forth: The initial post was retweeted more than 3,500 times, But Gabrielle continued to reply to those who defended the trigger-happy police.
Repeat offence: She claimed any victim can be made the villain

Happy couple: The 43-year-old star married 33-year-old Miami Heat basketballer Dwane Wade last year
