The five-year-old slips out of her aunt's hand and
plunges two floors, falling over the side of an escalator in
Russia. The
child was at the 'Solnechny' shopping centre in the city of Novy
Urengoy in north-central Russia with her aunt when the drama unfolded. CCTV
footage shows the youngster playing with the escalator by placing her
hands on the black plastic rail and letting them be carried up.
Her
aunt, who had been on the phone, managed to grab the child's arm - but
as the youngster toppled over the edge, she could only hold on for a
fraction of a second before losing her grip.
After vanishing down the gap, the girl plunged to the first floor of the shopping mall, crashing to the ground.
Witnesses said the woman was so shocked when she got to the first floor that she had almost fainted.
The
girl, named as Linara, was hospitalised but medics say she was lucky to
avoid major injuries, suffering only minor cuts and bruises.
She is expected to make a full recovery.
