Duck becomes internet sensation in Europe, even has her own Facebook page after she battled the odds to survive

Clover the pet duck has become such a popular face around town that she even has a Facebook page. The bird follows owner Emma Stanworth everywhere after she acted as a surrogate mother.

When Clover hatched eight months ago she had a twin from the same egg.
Both birds were weak and Clover’s twin died. Emma, 21, was determined she would nurse Clover to health.

She told The Sunday People: “We didn’t think she’d survive. Her health was poor and people told me to put her to sleep.
“But I knew with patience and hope I could get her fit and healthy.”

Nine months on and Clover is a happy duck and repays her owner with loyalty and affection.

Poultry keeper Emma said: “She follows me everywhere, she’s imprinted herself on me.
“I have two parrots, two budgies, a dog, a cat and I love them so much. But I’m very protective of Clover.
“She’ll follow me into shops. If I’m carrying something she jumps up for a look. She even comes on the bus, to the pub and to the swimming pool. She’s like a dog.
"When we go out, people love to see her and hold her. It’s not something you see every day. They really don’t expect it.”

Emma, of Birstall, West Yorks, has built up a following of social media fans for her pet by giving the bird her own Facebook group called Clover the Duck Daily Post .

More than 300 friends from across the world keep abreast of progress and suggest places Emma could take her.

And Emma, who studied an animal care course at college, is cashing in on this fame by selling posters and keyrings featuring her pet to raise money for the Phoenix Hen Rescue charity, which rehomes former battery birds.
