A mum has revealed her son is a girl after helping him announce to the world on the internet he is transitioning into a girl.
Scottish councillor Rosa Zambonini, 34, posted to her Twitter account about her 13-year-old son Charlie's decision to identify as a female.
Ms Zambonini told The Daily Mirror she was thrilled with the response from Charlie's school where students and teachers had been so supportive.
"She is just such a clever smart kid," "I'm so proud. I wondered how the children would react. These young people are so accepting and loving."
However, Ms Zambonini said some of her friends had questioned privately if the child was too young to make such a public decision.
"It wasn't criticism," said the Wishaw councillor and member of the Scottish National Party.
"It was people asking me.. some people have asked, friends and people, have asked if she is not a bit young? It's not a criticism, it's a lack of knowledge. It's not a decision.
"Some people thought it was a political thing. It is absolutely not."
