Kenyan Villagers Rejects woman With Massive Tumour Because They Think She's Bewitched

A Kenyan woman has launched an appeal for cash to pay for the removal of a gigantic tumour on her leg - but villagers think she has been bewitched and refuse to help. Eunice Anyango, from Eshirumbwe village in western Kenya developed the growth after she tripped on a stick which damaged her tibia in 1992

The 35-year-old mother did not think the fall was serious and did not go to hospital -but the tumour started to grow and has 'become huge' over the years.

Now living with her blind mother and 16-year-old son, many in the community have turned their back on her and only members of the church drop in to visit.

Mabel Akiso told Kenyan newspaper, The Star: 'The chief and her assistant know about the condition of this family, but they have never done anything about it.

He added that most people in the community believe the family are 'bewitched'.

'That is why most people stay away from Anyango, her mother and son,' Akiso added.

However, help may be at hand and the local NGO Mashinani Initiative has vowed to help with the youngster's school fees.
