I’m from Ibadan, Oyo State but I grew up
in Lagos. My family is a nuclear one even though I was surrounded by
cousins, nephews and other relatives. I had a fun childhood and I was
more of a tomboy. I played a lot of football and I am still in love with
the game.
Education
I attended Time and Tide International
School, for my elementary education and later attended Ibadan City
Academy, Saint Anne’s School, Molete and Oriwu College, Ikorodu, for my
post-elementary education. I studied Performing Arts at Olabisi Onabanjo
University, Ago-Iwoye. I also studied for a diploma in Law at the same
university. Before then, I attended The Polytechnic, Ibadan where I
earned an Ordinary National Diploma in Business Administration. I also
travelled to South Africa where I took some courses in interior
decoration. I just returned from the United States of America where I
did a course in film-making and directing at the New York Film Academy.
Modelling
I started modelling when I was 13. Bayo
Adegbe, popularly known as Modela, trained me to become a professional
model. I did several TV commercials and runway shows. I stopped
modelling because I grew to love acting.
Acting
I started acting professionally in 2003.
My first experience as an actor was a TV series by Wale Adenuga
Productions. The first film I acted in was produced by me in 2006. It
was my first, not because I didn’t get offers to partake in films
produced by other people, but because I had the resources to produce
my own film. Since the storyline was a beautiful one, I didn’t want to
give it out to someone else. So far, I have produced three movies. The
last one was in 2010. I then took a break to focus on my business.
Business
I like to trade. I went into buying and
selling at a tender age. It is not difficult to make money when you are
hard-working. If you fail, you have to get up and do it again until you
succeed. Although you can cut corners to get rich, you can’t cut corners
to be successful.
Nollywood
I have also taken part in some English
TV series. I did some with Segun Arinze and Paul Obazele. I’m limited to
one part of the industry. Oftentimes, I’m not available and that’s why I
haven’t starred in more English movies. It is not because I have been
tagged a ‘Yoruba actress.’ In fact, a lot of people think Yoruba
actresses don’t speak good English.
Politics
I love what I experienced and I’m still
in politics. I decided to go to my hometown in Kudeti, Ibadan to
impact lives. I contested for a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
Even though I didn’t win the election, I feel delighted that I won the
love of the people.
Current project
Acting does not pay my bills and I try
to be as real as possible. I’m working on my business which involves
importing and selling of bathroom accessories. I do souvenirs and I am
into animal husbandry. Very soon, I will add cash crops.
Challenges
I don’t dwell on challenges. I see them
as part of my success story. I would never have been who I am today if I
didn’t experience challenges.I focus on ways to make things better.
Fame
There’s a saying in Theatre Arts that
there’s a thin line between sanity and insanity. When actors cannot
break away from the roles they play, then they have actually crossed
that line. I don’t see myself as a famous person. I can go to Idumota
market if I want.
Marriage
I’m in a relationship and I’m happy in
it. A lot of people are married and are not happy while some are single
and are happy. People shouldn’t attach so much importance to marriage.
Life is too short not to be happy. You don’t have to be married because
the society expects you to.
Fitness
I’m gradually becoming a fitness junky. I
go to the gym at least five times a week. I watch what I eat and try as
much as possible to eat a balanced diet. I also drink a lot of water.
Style
I wear whatever I like and it does not have to be expensive. My style is simple and uncomplicated.
Beauty
Everyone is beautiful in their own way. I
don’t do so much and I don’t follow trends. I can be a trendless person
and I don’t bleach my skin.
Relaxation
I’m not a movie person. I relax by reading and I love to travel.
