Robbers attempt raid on Wayne Rooney's £6million mansion

Suspected Thugs tried to raid Wayne Rooney 's £6million mansion - while he was playing in his own testimonial. Police rushed to the star's huge Cheshire abode after the masked raiders set off the top-of-the-range alarm system.

The Manchester United player lives in the house with his wife Coleen and their three boys Kai, Klay and Kit. Neighbours described the moment officers swooped on the hapless crooks as “like something out of an action film”.

The striker was playing at Old Trafford in a tribute game in his honour when the attempted burglary took place.

The bungling criminals set off sirens and lights in the palatial home - bringing police racing to the scene.

A helicopter and three police cars were in the scene in minutes - while police dogs were unleashed in the gardens.

One resident in the village of Prestbury, Cheshire, told The Sun: “Wayne has amazing security to make sure his wife Coleen and the kids are OK while he is away.

“It’s like a fortress. It was like something out of a movie with alarms shrieking and search lights flashing on.
