A hero Father to jump from plane without parachute to fund cure for dying son's disease. Marc Clark, from Solihull, West Midlands, will make the terrifying leap in Morocco. Two professional skydivers will leap out seconds later, grabbing him in mid-air. To make matters worse the 38-year-old war veteran is scared of heights and has never jumped out of a plane before but he will do it to save his son
Marc’s son Jack, aged two, suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
Sadly there is no cure for the muscle wasting disease, which has a life expectancy of around 18, and only affects boys.
The IT contractor and wife Anna, 36, have both been busy raising money in the hope of finding a cure.
Marc told the Birmingham Mail: “I am ex-forces but have never jumped out of plane as I am scared of heights. I’m doing this to raise awareness.
“I’ve spoken to Gary Connery who is in the Guinness book of records as ‘The Birdman’ and he said it can be done. He said that he doesn’t think it would be possible in the UK because it’ll be the first time I have done a skydive.
“But I have to do something to help Jack and other children with DMD.”
Marc is hoping to raise as much money as possible for Duchenne UK when he carries out the jump next year.
He added: “The sky’s the limit. I hope to raise £1 million for research. We are looking for businesses to help us promote this and raise as much money possible.”
The couple first discovered something was wrong with Jack when he kept falling over.
A blood test confirmed he had muscular dystrophy but not which type. While they awaited tests, the couple carried out their own research.
