Female TV sports reporter secretly filmed naked in hotel room by stalker awarded £38million in damages

Erin Andrews took the stand in her $75 million civil trial against Michael David Barrett who secretly filmed her through a peephole

The sports reporter who was secretly filmed naked in her hotel room by a stalker has been awarded more than £38million in damages. A jury yesterday said Erin Andrews, 37, should get it for being humiliated by Michael David Barrett.

He tampered with her peephole, recorded footage and put it online.

In the civil case against Barrett and the Nashville Marriott in Tennessee, the US journalist claimed the hotel was negligent by giving Barrett a room next to hers at his request in 2008.

During the case Andrews broke down as she testified the incident had left her humiliated and that she now checks her rooms for recording devices when she travels.

Jurors found Barrett 51% at fault and the hotel owners West End Hotel Partners 49%, with the damages bill split accordingly.

After the verdict, Ms Andrews said: “I’ve been honoured by all the support from victims around the world.
“Their outreach has helped me be able to stand up and hold accountable those whose job it is to protect everyone’s safety, security and privacy.”
