Woman has ACID thrown in her face by her husband in Bangladesh over their Dowry

Her body has been wrapped in large swathes of fabric bandages in an attempt to prevent the burnt skin from touching other areas injured by the acid in the attack.

Ms Akter is one of 1847 women who have been the victim of an acid attack in Bangladesh between 1999 and 2015


In 2015 violence for dowry and stalking increased and incidents resulted in the killing of 1,847 women and girls while 301 others committed suicide, according to Bangladesh National Women Lawyer Association


Due to the sensitivity and damage usually sustained by the acid on the victim's face, injuries are usually life-changing

Victims often survive the acid attack but the physical and psychological impact means that it can take survivors a long time to rebuild their lives.

Many acid burns patients are forced out by their family due to the apparent social stigma associated with the attacks. 
Of the 3626 victims of acid attacks from 1999 to 2015, 1847 were female, 901 were male and 877 were children, according to the Acid Survivors Foundation.
