Man Kills his Cousin For Raping His Girlfriend in Akwa Ibom

The 22-year old Clement from Uyo, Akwa-Ibom have voluntarily handed himself to the police for killing his cousin, Ubong Edet, for raping his girlfriend in his statement.  According to his narration, he said, he got home to meet his girlfriend bruised, who told him that Edet, who lived with him, had raped her.

Clement had confronted Edet when he returned home, and a fight had ensued between the two, which ended in Clement taking Edet’s life.

“When I asked him why he did what he did to my girlfriend, he started punching me and I retaliated,” Clement said. “We fought for a very long time before I could subdue him. I then picked my cow-butchering knife and cut his throat, carried his dead body and dumped it in the bush very close to the house and threw the knife into the pit toilet.”

“I have brought myself to the police even when nobody knew that I killed him. I have come to plead for forgiveness because since I killed my cousin, I no longer have peace of mind. I am always disturbed in my mind and dream.”

Clement will be charged to court, according to the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, Cordelia Nwawe.
