A couple are at war over the gender identity of their four-year-old child with one arguing they have a son and the other saying they have a daughter. When Aubrey was born in 2011 the parents discovered they had an intersex child with ambiguous genitalia. However the couple have since separated with the mum claiming their child now wants to be a boy. As result she cut off her hair which infuriated the father who believes
Aubrey is and wants to be a girl. The youngster now lives as a girl when
he is with his father and boy when with his mum.
The former couple took to national television in America on Monday in the hope of settling their dispute.
Appearing on the Dr Phil Show , Michelle said: “I just want Kyle to accept Aubrey for who he wants to be.”
She said she is just trying to respect Aubrey’s wishes, and if now the child wants to be a boy she respects that. Her words led Kyle, who was sitting alongside his new wife Brittany to reply: “Michelle needs to take a look at that birth certificate and see that Aubrey is female.
“She shouldn’t be trying to change that.”
He then admitted he wanted to have a daughter.
Dr Phil said it was Brittany who contacted producers concerned for Aubrey’s well-being now that both parents were at loggerheads over the child’s gender identity.
She said Aubrey appears to prefer toys that would traditionally be played with by boys although sometimes liked girls clothing.
