Lewis Hamilton says "heavy partying" is the reason he crashed his car in Monaco earlier this week. The three-time world champion
was driving through the streets of Monte Carlo in the early of hours of
Tuesday morning when he lost control of his £1.5million Pagani Zonda
and crashed it into three parked cars. He was breathalysed at the scene but tested negative
A
Monaco Palais de Justice spokesperson said: "Mr Hamilton’s foot slipped
on the brake and clutch pedals and his vehicle struck three parked
cars. He was tested for alcohol but the result was negative.”
Hamilton admitted that he had been partying before the crash, but
that it was a lack of sleep, rather than intoxication, that caused the
accident.
“It was a result of heavy partying and not much rest
for a week and a half,” Hamilton said. “I am a bit run down. I have been
non-stop and trying to fit training in at the same time and not getting
a lot of sleep.”
Hamilton said he only made "light contact" with
the stationary vehicles, and he reassured his fans he is certain to
take part in this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix.
