Tyler
Wade, 17, had been at his home alone with his 12-year-old sister when
Pedro Sanchez, 21, entered the property in the 18000 block of Oden Trace
Drive in Tomball. Pedro attacked Wade with a knife while he
was showering in an upstairs bathroom at around 4pm on Monday.
Harris
County Sheriff’s deputies said
Sanchez had been seen entering the home wearing rubber gloves and carrying a baseball bat, they added.
Wade’s sister then ran next door to get help from a neighbor.
The neighbor, an off-duty firefighter, came to Wade's house armed with a gun.
He
ordered Sanchez to drop the knife but fired a shot when Sanchez lunged
at him, police said. The neighbor then tended to wounded Wade.
‘The
neighbor pulled out a weapon, discharged the weapon one time, striking
the suspect once, then he proceeded to help the victim.’
Friends and family paid tribute to Wade, who was a senior at Tomball Memorial High School.
His family said he was popular and described him as a ‘true joy’.
‘He was a fabulous kid with an incredible sense of humor,’ Wade’s mother Amy told Click2Houston.
‘We are all better for having him in our lives. He was a true joy.’
Hundreds of students gathered at his high school for a memorial on Tuesday morning and wore blue in Wade’s honor.
