An image shared by a mother on Facebook that appears to show her baby tied up with tape wrapped around his hands and over his mouth has disgusted social media users.
It was all a joke the mother said... but she and her husband are currently under close investigation.
The mum is from Tijuana, north western Mexico, was slammed by users who saw the image.
The
shocking photo was uploaded as a 'public image', meaning anyone - even
if they were not linked as friends with her on the popular social network - could view the photo.
Her son is seen with his hands tied and his mouth covered with white duct tape in the post.
The image was quickly deleted once local media began to report on the post.
Responding
to criticism, she wrote on Facebook: "My children are alright and this
photo was published to the world by someone who dislikes me.
"I
uploaded this photo but it is not as it seems, because we were playing
around and my whole family was with me, so it was nothing sinister.
"It hurts this got published because it is a lie. It hurts that this exposes my baby."
She and her husband are under investigation by the Agency of the Public Ministry and Sexual Offences, authorities confirmed.
