Iraqi special forces filmed themselves shooting a tied ISIS captive -
and then took selfies with his body to hit back at the terrorists in
the escalating online propaganda war. The chilling mobile phone
footage shows the troops shouting at the failed suicide bomber, who
appears to have been savagely beaten, while Arabic music plays in the
background.
One still image shows an Iraqi soldier stamping on the Islamic State fighter.
The shooting is punctuated by gunfire as one of the soldiers executes the prisoner with his rifle.
Soon other troops are opening fire on the body in a savage release of pent-up fury.
At least one of the soldiers also took a picture with the terror thug's corpse.
Another corpse, apparently another ISIS militant, is also seen in the chilling footage, which was reportedly taken near the town of Makhmour, south of Nineveh.
Many in Iraq have come to despise the ultra-hardline Sunni
Muslim insurgents, who mete out brutal punishments against their
opponents and have brought severe economic hardship on those living in
areas they captured in a shock offensive through the north and west of
Iraq in 2014-15.
But early signs from the Iraqi army's advance in
the Makhmour area suggests regaining popular trust there is likely to
be complicated by the fact that Islamic State has embedded itself among
local Sunni inhabitants.
This has put them in the army's crosshairs.
