Kate Middleton wore Princess Diana diamond tiara which was given her as a wedding present in 1981 by the Queen

Princess Diana wore the tiara with pearl encrusted dress and bolero by Catherine Walker for a tour of Hong Kong in 1989Kate wore a pale blue lace dress with a conservative, elegant neckline that ended just inches below her hair
Arriving at the Queen's annual Diplomatic Reception in a chauffeur-driven Bentley, Kate was wearing, appropriately, the dazzling diamond and pearl Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara, once owned by her husband mother, Princess Diana. The Knot Tiara was given to Princess Diana as a wedding present in 1981 by the Queen.

Kate wore her hair in an up-do and teamed the diamond and pearl headpiece with her diamond chandelier earrings while the dapper prince looked smart in white tie
Princess Diana wore the diamond tiara with pearl drops, designed in 1914, many times
In 1981 she gave it as a wedding present to Prince William's mother, Diana, who wore it for the first time at the state opening of parliament that November. But Buckingham Palace was unable to confirm last night whether the tiara had reverted to the Queen on Diana's death and had now been given to Kate, or whether it was just on loan for the night.

The tiara has a strong French influence, made to a new-classical design on 19 open work diamond arches and enclosing an oriental pearl drop from a diamond lover's knot bow, surrounded by single diamonds and upright oval pearl spikes.

The Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara was fashioned from Queen Mary's jewels by Garrard in 1914

Kate paid touching tribute to the famous princess who she will never meet by wearing her tiara
